Senior E & S Officer

Job Description

The Senior Environmental and Social Officer (Senior E&S Officer) shall be responsible for integrating E&S management principles with environmental and social international standards into the project during the construction stage. S/he shall work closely with Safety Officer, E&S Officer, Public Relation Officer and other line departments of the projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and conduct the regular construction supervision of construction sites.
  • Lead the implementation of E&S safeguards into the project documentation.
  • Plan and manage E&S tasks and budget, ensuring cost control.
  • Liaise with the project stakeholders, including the government officials.
  • Liaise with central, provincial, and local government authorities, as well as all other relevant stakeholders.
  • Work with the engineering division to integrate E&S matter into the implementation.
  • Work with the financial and legal teams to make sure that E&S requirements, commitments and resources are properly reflected in all project documents and budgets.
  • Weekly reporting of E&S status, implement livelihood restoration plan, biodiversity management, benefit sharing and others as relevant.
  • Oversee the development of appropriate E&S management plans and procedures for the early project stages for 9.5 MW cascading project.
  • Ensure the implementation of E&S plans and programs during project development, construction and operation.
  • Timely document and report the E&S issues to the General Manager of the corporate office.
  • Prepare monthly E&S report, and bi-annual environmental and social monitoring report.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant subject.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the field.
  • Successful experience in developing and implementing E&S plans in line with international E&S standards.
  • Experience in the hydropower sector will be preferred.
  • Project management skills: ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate, execute, control and evaluate projects; knowledge of project management tools.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Duty Station

  • The position will be based in project site office, Taplejung, Nepal.
